~ Iona Abbey ~
Home » Conservation » Iona Abbey
The beautiful Island of Iona has been a Holy site of Pilgrimage since the 6th Century. It was founded by St Columba and has been occupied by various religious orders ever since.
The Abbey is mostly glazed with plain leaded windows, and from time to time I am asked by Historic Environmenrt Scotland to repair breaks and cracks to the glass which have been broken by kamikasi birds in the tower, and more recently, unexpected malicious vandalism.
It is always a pleasure to drive here, at any time of year. Deer, highland cows, otters, pelicans, eagles, owls, hills, lochs, ferries, ancient archaeology and exceptional views.
