~ Elcho Castle ~

In December 2021 I carried out a complete survey of all 96 windows / window openings in Elcho Castle in Perthshire, for Historic Environment Scotland.

I carefully identified each window on blank floor plans, numbered and photographed, condition reported each one, and recorded which were in need of immediate attention, and which were in good condition.

The interior layout of the castle is one of the most confusing ruins that I have ever been in, with multiple spiral staircases, split-level rooms,  completely inaccessible spaces, and dozens of windows that all looked alike with slight variations.

Great fun, to have such a building all to myself for three days, to get completely lost in during lockdown.
