This was perhaps one of the strangest windows I have ever worked on. I was asked to clean the glass, but it quickly became apparent that it was a very unusual window. Firstly, it had been installed from the back, but despite many attempts at finding access, it was obvious once the central painted piece was removed, that the entire window had been bricked up very early on. The glass was “silvered” on the reverse surface, with silver leaf, which reflected the light from the room, but was tarnishing and flaking off in places. The whole window was impossible to remove without major building work which the clients did not want, so only a surface clean and a re-fixing of the central panel was possible.
