A few decades ago, the previous owner of a beautiful Victorian mansion in Glasgow’s Southside, replaced a large painted side-light with horrible Georgian wired industrial glass.
The new house owner asked me to make a new “replacement” painted panel, to match the other, still existing one on the other side of the door.
A rubbing was done of the trace lines, and exact measurements were taken and checked.
My first attempt was not close enough. The firing temperatures were too hot, and the paint application was either too thick, or too thin. The kiln gods were prayed to, temperature adjustments were made, and the paint was applied slightly differently.
My second attempt was a close match, and the client was delighted.
(Bonus – I get to keep the “rejected” panel in my kitchen)
