Time, wear and tear, and possibly a kamikaze bird strike, caused several pieces of glass in the upper sashes of this tenement window to break.
Each sash had nine separate external plates of protective glass which were made with 2mm glass. Some were installed with traditional linseed oil putty, but others were set in rock hard mastic.
I took my time, and carefully removed, cleaned and re-set the original protective glazing where necessary, after in-situ repairs of the original broken lead glass were matched with like-for like clear textured glass.
A partial repair, as required. Not full conservation.
Many thanks to Neil Keogh and “Swanny” from The Glazing Company in Greenock for their help.
