~ Private front door ~
A new, “Walton-esque” front door commission for a tenement door in Glasgow’s West End.
A bespoke design, made to resemble, but not to copy, other West-End doors and windows. For this I used a variety of old, hand-made, scraps of English antique glass, some of which were nearly as old as the tenement itself.
Tiny uranium jewels were individually bought from a factory in Germany who specialises in manufacturing prism and jewel glass shapes
The colours were chosen to work with the original tiles in the close.
A second “Waltonesque” new window is also included here: a bathroom window which I made in 2008, for a neighbour, who was renovating a house at the corner of our communal lane. The room had previously been a small bedroom, which was converted into a shower room. The Walton elements were taken from other, original, known Walton windows, both here in Glasgow and in York. I tried to use as sympathetically accurate glass as possible, so much so that in 2024, now that the house is for sale, the window is listed as “an original feature” !
